This webinar provides insights into the use of modules of metrics (MoM) in the California High-Speed Rail System (CHSRS), a multi-billion-dollar program procured in several individual procurement contracts including civil works, track and systems, trainsets, and the train operator. There are currently three active civil works contracts, spanning 119 miles including the design and construction of over 225 different guide way sections, aerial structures, trenches, roadway overheads, and other structures.

Requirements are managed in DOORS, with hundreds of modules and thousands of requirements in each contract. With the progression of design and construction metrics were developed, measuring how the requirements were addressed in several thousand contractor design and construction submittals, eventually evolving into the MoM approach. As the first structures are being readied for acceptance, certification and hand-over to the next track and systems contractor, it is of even more importance to demonstrate that all applicable requirements have been satisfied by each contract.

The CHSRS MoM approach has been successfully implemented as a pilot for one the three civil works contracts and is planned to be rolled out to the remaining civil works and any or the future contracts. This webinar will discuss the MoM objectives, challenges, implementation, and the use of the MoM for both technical and managerial use.

SAE: Transforming Automotive Engineering by Tackling Complexity

Thurs, Feb 25, 2021 at 11:00AM ET

Electrification and ADAS are accelerating product complexity to unmanageable levels. The nexus of this complexity is where software and electrical engineering converge. The problem with current processes and tools is they’re disconnected and discontinuous, creating challenges in single engineering domains and across domains.

This webinar examines how to enable a transformation of automotive engineering through an integrated multi-domain tool chain that supports industry imperatives and offers increased efficiency, automation, and traceability. It discusses the partnership of Siemens and IBM and how they have worked together to connect cross-domain processes, information, and tools, especially between systems, electrical, and software engineering.

Join us to learn how to:

Simplify wiring, reduce ECUs, & increase functionality & flexibility
Optimize vehicle cost & weight
Iimprove quality while reducing warranty costs driven by software & electrical engineering incompatibilities
Establish traceability to drive a design path for safety-critical functions
Enable a shared & common set of requirements
Leverage & extend existing investments efficiently

AI Applications Leader

My name is Imran Hashmi. I’ve been part of the IBM Canada Sales team for the past 13 years in various sales and sales management roles. Currently, I’m responsible for all Strategic Accounts across Canada and the Caribbean for IBM AI Applications, Engineering Lifecycle Management. Due to Covid travel restrictions, I’m available on my desk from 7:30 am to 6 pm Eastern time. Please feel to call me on my cell at +1-416-788-9101 or email at [email protected]

My focus areas are simplifying complexity around compliance and regulations. I mainly work with the following client industries in Canada:

Solving hard systems engineering challenges for complex product development.

Today’s software and systems engineering teams are tasked with developing safety-critical products that meet the strictest regulatory compliance standards. These globally dispersed teams need shared access to a single source of truth across their engineering data to ensure improved collaboration and productivity. By adopting an end-to-end view across the entire product lifecycle, they can more easily track changes to minimize risk and reduce costs.

Engineering lifecycle management (ELM) extends the functionality of application lifecycle management (ALM) or SDLC tools for better complex-systems development.

IBM Engineering Requirements Quality Assistant (RQA) is a software service that helps improve the clarity of requirements. The service uses IBM Watson® Natural Language Processing (NLP) to detect potential ambiguities and generates real-time scores to assess the quality of requirements.
