One thing I appreciate about IBM is its culture of learning and leadership. Each Monday, Rob Thomas shares a growth message with IBMers that can prompt us to think differently about how we lead and execute.
This week’s message resonated with me: “Reports tell you what happened. Gemba tells you why.”
Metrics are essential. They help us notice trends, opportunities, and problems. But numbers alone rarely tell the full story. Understanding often comes from being present, listening carefully, and speaking with clients, partners, and the people doing the work.
The best leaders do more than manage metrics. They stay curious about what is happening on the front lines and make time to learn why.
I was grateful to be part of IBM Golden Circle with Rob Thomas. I’m looking forward to working toward earning a place again next year.
